Selma Todorova is born in Sofia, Bulgaria. Graduates the
National High School of Fine Arts in 1981 and the National Art Academy in 1989
in the class of prof. Ivan Gazdov. Among her professors is Alexander Poplilov -
a prominent artist, legendary watercolorist, illustrator, graphic designer,
portraitist, master of the historical composition.
Selma Todorova has an extremely wide spectrum of
professional and art interests: icon, illustration, book design, and design of
clothes, graphic design, portrait, landscape, nude body, and composition. She
paints both watercolor and oil painting, and has more than 50 solo exhibitions
in Bulgaria and abroad.
Participates in many TV shows, collective exhibitions, art
symposiums and forums in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Romania, Italy,
Spain, India, Pakistan, China, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Morocco, South Africa,
Turkey, and USA. Organizer of international workshops in India and Bulgaria.
Teaches drawing and painting. Winner of numerous national and international
awards for watercolor, oil painting, design of clothes and lifetime
achievement. Member of jury in international competitions. Member of the Union
of the Bulgarian Artists and AIAP.
Head of IWS Bulgaria Foundation (branch of IWS Globe),
curator of the “International Watercolor Triennial – Varna, Bulgaria” 2016.
Her paintings are owned by a number of institutions such as
the Ministry of Culture – Republic of Bulgaria; the National Assembly of the
Republic of Bulgaria; the Municipality of Sliven, Bulgaria; the Union of the
Bulgarian artist; as well as city art galleries, embassies and collectors in
many countries. Her portraits of historical personalities are in the galleries,
reception halls and representative offices around Bulgaria.
