Karen Sioson developed her interest in watercolor back in
the 1990s while studying Interior Design at the University of the Philippines,
Diliman, Q.C. Watercolor caught her attention particularly because she had
difficulty with it. It became a quest to understand and tame the medium. The study, observation and experimentation
continues to this day with her focus now more on learning how to let the
pigment and water play on the paper.
What started as a hobby has since turned into a career in art for Karen.
In 2010, she started displaying and selling her art from her home studio under
the business name Karen Michele Sioson Fine Art.
The internet also has made it possible for Karen to connect
with other artists who share the same passion for watercolors both local and
abroad. In 2011, Karen was invited to be part of the International Watercolor
Society. She currently heads the
Philippine chapter of the International Watercolor Society which she helped
established in 2014. She has
participated in numerous international festivals and exhibitions since then.
Karen is actively promoting watercolor art in her country
and is a founding member of the Philippine Guild of Watercolorists.
